WWE Extreme Rules 2016: Preview and Predictions

WWE Extreme Rules 2016: Preview and PredictionsWe’re just a few days away from the second Pay Per View after WrestleMania, WWE Extreme Rules which will be headlined by the WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles. Both the superstars intend to walk out of NJ as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and on this week’s episode of RAW, Styles delivered an emphatic statement when he dropped Roman Reigns with the Styles Clash on a steel chair.
Meanwhile, The Miz has his own problems to deal with, as he gets ready to take on Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Cesaro in a fatal four way match, which only gives him one fourth of a chance to walk out of the event as still the WWE Intercontinental Champion. Kalisto will put his WWE United States Championship on the line against the Bulgarian Brute, Rusev who once again gained the upper hand on this week’s episode. The New Day will put their WWE World Tag Team Championships on the line against The Vaudevillains, who seem to have The New Day’s number.
Last but not least, Charlotte will put the WWE Women’s Championship on the line, and won’t have the luxury of using her father’s presence in her favor. With Ric Flair banned from ringside, Charlotte will take on Natalya in a Submission match, which may very well lead to the crowning of a new champion. Today, we give you our early predictions for the Pay Per View, as well as preview what could be in store for the WWE Universe this Sunday.
Pre – show:
Dolph Ziggler versus Baron Corbin in a No Disqualifications match
On the kick off show, Dolph Ziggler is set to take on Baron Corbin, and while the Show Off was successful in beating Corbin at WWE Payback, with the No Disqualifications stipulation, things can get very ugly for the former World Heavyweight Champion, with Baron Corbin out for blood. While Ziggler has proven time and again that he has the heart of a champion, at Extreme Rules, even he might not be able to subdue the Lone Wolf.
Dolph Ziggler versus Baron Corbin in a No Disqualifications match at Extreme Rules 2016
Corbin has been impressive since making his main roster debut, and immediately set his sights on the former World Champion. With his size and strength advantage, one has to believe that Baron Corbin will have the edge going into the Pay Per View, and won’t make the same mistakes he made against Ziggler at Payback.
Prediction: Winner – Baron Corbin
Main show:
Kalisto versus Rusev (with Lana) for the WWE United States Championship
Kalisto has proved resilient in the past as a champion, defeating Ryback on a couple of occasions, including at WrestleMania 32 for the coveted United States Championship. However, he now faces a dangerous opponent in Rusev, who is also a former WWE United States Champion. Since the League of Nations split, Rusev has been on a rampage, taking out every opponent put in front of him. On this week’s episode of RAW, Rusev was successful in distracting Kalisto, and in the end locked him in the Accolade till Kalisto passed out.
Kalisto versus Rusev (with Lana) for the WWE United States Championship at Extreme Rules 2016
This Sunday at Extreme Rules, the United States Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs, and Rusev knows what it means to be the United States Champion. However, Kalisto has been somewhat of a giant killer, and would do everything in his power to keep the title with him. One has to believe that with his recent record, the masked superstar would eventually find a way to put the Bulgarian Brute down for the three count.
Prediction: Winner and still the WWE United States Champion – Kalisto
The Miz versus Kevin Owens versus Sami Zayn versus Cesaro in a Fatal Four Way match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
The Miz is in for the fight of his life, as he looks to defend the Intercontinental title against three other men. While Kevin Owens stood tall on this week’s episode of RAW, Sami Zayn will do everything in his power to ensure that Owens doesn’t win the title at Extreme Rules. The remaining competitor – Cesaro is one of the strongest and athletically gifted superstars in the organization, and while the Swiss Superman came ever so close to winning the title at Payback, we may very well see Cesaro winning the title at Extreme Rules.

The Miz has the improbable task of overcoming three other superstars, and while there is a chance that The Miz could in fact walk away with the championship, the fact that the other three superstars happen to be three of the most accomplished men in the business today swings the balance in their favor. Sami Zayn looks to win his first major title on the main roster, while Cesaro and Owens are hell bent on winning the championship. We predict the crowning of a new champion, which could also lead to the dawn of the Cesaro era.
Prediction: Winner and the new WWE Intercontinental Champion – Cesaro
Dean Ambrose versus Chris Jericho in an Asylum Match
Ambrose and Jericho have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at each other, and on this week’s edition of Monday Night RAW, Ambrose refused to apologize to Jericho, and instead proposed a match at Extreme Rules. Ambrose revealed that it would be an Asylum match – a steel cage containing various weapons, and nowhere to run for the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla! Ambrose looks to have finally won the mental warfare, with Jericho finding himself in an unfamiliar territory.

However, Jericho is a veteran in this business, and has seen and done everything there is to accomplish in the industry. Jericho isn’t new to hardcore matches, and could spring a surprise or two himself come Extreme Rules. While Ambrose managed to beat Jericho at Payback, one could expect Jericho to return the favor this Sunday.
Prediction: Winner – Chris Jericho
The New Day versus The Vaudevillains for the WWE World Tag Team Championships
The Vaudevillains have done what no other team in recent memory has been able to do – get under the skin of The New Day. For more than half a year, no other team in the company managed to get the better of The New Day, but with Kofi Kingston losing to Aiden English on last week’s edition of SmackDown, the tide seems to be turning in the throwback team’s favor.

However, The Vaudevillains put an exclamation point on this week’s episode of RAW, where they attacked and laid all three members of The New Day out! While The Vaudevillains seem to have The New Day’s number, you can never count the power of positivity out. The New Day thrives on a challenge, and this Sunday, they face their toughest test till date. But one has to believe that The New Day would walk out of NJ with the titles firmly in their grasp, given their successful title defenses in the past, along with their numbers’ advantage.
Prediction: Winners and still the WWE World Tag Team Champions – The New Day
Charlotte versus Natalya in a Submission match for the WWE Women’s Championship
At Payback, Natalya was robbed of the WWE Women’s Championship when Charles Robinson rang the bell even before Natalya submitted. The third generation superstar now has the opportunity to win the title and dish out her version of justice to Charlotte, considering Ric Flair has been banned from ringside for their bout at Extreme Rules.
Charlotte versus Natalya in a Submission match for the WWE Women’s Championship WWE Extreme Rules 2016
Charlotte and Natalya will face off in a Submission match, with the stipulation that if Ric Flair gets involved during the bout, Charlotte has to forfeit the title. However, Charlotte has proved in the past that she can overcome adversity, and will do anything and everything in her power to remain the WWE Women’s Champion. Can Natalya finally dethrone Charlotte? Or will the “Nature Girl” prove once and for all that she is indeed the greatest Women’s Champion of this generation? If you were a betting man, you wouldn’t bet on Charlotte giving up the title any time soon.
Prediction: Winner and still the WWE Women’s Champion – Charlotte
Roman Reigns versus AJ Styles in an Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
The main event will feature Roman Reigns and AJ Styles in a rematch from WWE Payback. While Roman Reigns has the support of The Usos, AJ Styles now has his friends by his side. At Payback, AJ came extremely close to winning the title; however, while Roman Reigns lost the match twice, he was able to hang on to the championship, and once again proved his resiliency.
WWE Extreme Rules 2016 Roman Reigns versus AJ Styles in an Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

At Extreme Rules, both the superstars will collide in an Extreme Rules match, which would imply that anything goes during the bout. While there is a strong possibility that The Usos and The Bullet Club will get involved at some point during the bout, the outcome could rely on who holds their nerve the longest. While AJ is no stranger to winning championships, one has to wonder if “The Phenomenal One” has what it takes to win the richest prize in the business.
In the end, it boils down to who wants the championship more, and it will undoubtedly be an exciting affair once both the superstars step through the ropes. We believe that the Roman Empire won’t go down in ruins just yet, and Roman Reigns will do just enough to walk out of New Jersey as still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Prediction: Winner and still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion – Roman Reigns
