Mexico City hosted the 66th FIFA congress where newly elected President Gianni Infantino moved numerous resolutions and promised massive reforms. The appointment of Sengalese Fatima Samba Diouf Samoura has been the major talking point. Samba a 21 years old veteran of various UN programs will become the first Female General Secretary for FIFA.
Kosovo and Gibraltar were granted membership by FIFA after the congress approved their inclusion which makes them the 210th and 211thmember of illustrious global football family. Meanwhile the committee also confirmed the suspensions of Benin and Kuwait and was agreed that the suspensions could be lifted if all compliance are met.
Legends Program launched
FIFA also announced the launch of the lucrative Legends program which will see the participation of Football legends tour different countries and take part in Fund raising and promotional activities. Football legends Clarence Seedorf and Sun Wein of China presented the program in the FIFA congress.

Among few of the major reform moves by the newly elected President were the appointment of new members in important committees like Governance Committee, Ethics Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Audits and Compliance Committee, Finance Committee, Development Committee and Stakeholder Relations Committee. Former Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was appointed as an independent member in the Football Stakeholder committee.

Justice Mudgal in FIFA Panel
Though India is languishing in the sub 160 rankings in the World, a surprise move saw former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana, Mr. Mukul Mudgal being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Governance Committee. Portuguese Luis Miguel Maduro. a Hardvard educated Governance expert will assume the responsibility of being the Chairman in the same committee. Both these Governance experts will also head the International Review committee of FIFA that reviews all major FIFA decisions.
Mukul Mudgal is a well-known legal practitioner in India. A Hindu College alumnus, Mudgal started his career as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and went onto become the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Mudgal to is famous for heading the “Mudgal Committee” that investigated the Match Fixing claims in Indian cricket. It was his Inquiry committee report that shook the World cricket to its roots.

Mudgal has been recently involved in another major sporting appointment where he oversaw proceedings between Delhi Cricket Association and local authorities in hosting a World Cup game in New Delhi. Justice Mudgal was also roped in by the AFC in a similar capacity.
Controversy plagued FIFA should definitely benefit from the appointment of Mukul Mudgal’s appointment in the Governance committee that will work hand in hand with FIFA President Infantino’s major initiative to clean up FIFA with major reforms and strong governance.
